Apprentice in the Windmill
This location is unlocked when a hunter reaches apprentice. Keep in mind, there are no Cheese Shoppes here so it is advised that you stock up on 50-100 marble before you come here.
Requirements/Recommendations
- 500 Pound Spiked Crusher or Mouse Mary O'Nette (or better)
- Wooden Base with Target
- Ranked Apprentice
The first thing you should notice is that hunts are now at 15 minutes apart and they will stay like that the rest of the game.
I advise that you switch to Marble if you haven't already. You should have the money to do that now. Here in the windmill, there isn't much to do but save up gold and points which is exactly what your going to do.
You may notice that 3 mice here, the Diamond, Scruffy and Spud mice, drop orbs. The Diamond mouse drops simple orbs and the Scruffy and Spud mice drop flawed orbs. Keep these orbs for now, they aren't useful to us now.
You cannot purchase any of the usual cheese you have been using up until now in the Windmill, so as I said before, stock up on larger amounts of cheese each time you purchase some. This is because travelling costs money. In this case, travelling from the Town of Gnawnia to the Windmill costs 250 gold. If you stocked up on too few cheese then that travel fee could have been used to buy 25 cheddar or 5 marble cheese.
The following is very important because you should do this for the rest of your mousehunting experience.
Whenever you are travelling back to the Town of Gnawnia or the Meadow, ALWAYS use Larry's Travel. After clicking the 'Travel' button, you should notice there are 3 tabs labelled 'Travel', 'Larry's Travel' and 'Map Items'. So when travelling back from the Windmill or anywhere else to buy Cheddar, Marble, Swiss or Brie cheese, click the 'Larry's Travel' Tab and click 'Follow Larry back to the Meadow'. He takes you to the Meadow for free and you can purchase the cheese you need, then travel to the Windmill for 260 gold. If you do not do this, you will be spending 500 gold going back and forth between the Windmill and the Town of Gnawnia.

Once you have collected around 16,000-20,000 gold and 11,000 points (you will probably reach the point requirement before the gold requirement), travel back to the Town of Gnawnia by doing Larry's Travel to the Meadow then spending only 10 gold to travel to the Town. You should have the money to compare 2 more traps again, by now you might have picked up that there are a lot of cases where you pick 1 of 2 traps. One may be better but it really comes down to personal preference.
The Mouse Rocketine is the better trap in that it has higher catch rates but it is just over 3000 gold more expensive. You can check their prices if you click on their pictures above. Once again most hunters go for the Mouse Trebuchet because it is cheaper and does the job nearly as well. It also has a better cheese effect and an attraction bonus of 24% with the Wooden Base with Target (we are still using that).

Once you have picked and bought your trap, travel back to the Windmill and continue hunting there with Marble cheese.
You may or may not attract the rarer Mole Mouse if you haven't already encountered one in the Meadow. These mice are quite rewarding to catch because they drop free marble cheese and sometimes an Ancient Relic. The Ancient Relic is used to attract the Relic Hunter mouse but we cannot reach that mouse for now. If you catch a Relic Hunter mouse you will get a treasure map but don't worry about them because you need a Team and must be able to travel to a large variety of areas. At the moment, you can only travel to 3 out of the 38 locations. You'll find that there are many mechanics and activities in Mousehunt that seem to over complicate the game at first but once you know how to do it, it is straightforward from there.
You will notice that a lot of the mice here have dropped Packets of Flour. If you check out the Cheese Shoppe, you will find a new kind of cheese that can be purchased: Grilled Cheese. This is the first cheese that requires loot drops from mice to purchase. As you can see, it costs 10 Packets of Flour to purchase. Buy it whenever you can as you can only hold up to 15 Packets of Flour. This cheese has a fantastic attraction rate but will really only attract the Captain Croissant mouse who in turn drops more Packets of Flour. This little game is very cyclical but the Captain Croissant mouse is worth 1,000 points and gold so it will progress you faster than the other mice on average.
The next manner of business is to rank up to Initiate, where you unlock more things to do such as Crafting and the Marketplace. Once you have ranked up to Initiate, you will unlock a new location called the Harbour. Travel there and hunter there.
