Initiate
Congratulations, you are now an Initiate. You can now craft items and access the marketplace. You'll find that crafting is of major importance in the future, now it isn't as important. You can now travel to the Harbour.
Requirements/Recommendations
- Mouse Trebuchet or Mouse Rocketine (or better)
- Wooden Base with Target
- Ranked Initiate
You might have noticed that, once again, there is no cheese shoppe so you will have to stock up on Marble cheese at the Town of Gnawnia or Meadow again. Alternatively, you can craft your first cheese to use instead. When a new location is released, hunters are supposed to figure out the recipes for the crafted (in my opinion anyway), but usually that never happens for the average hunter. Normally, one guy figures it out and tells everyone else and it eventually gets posted online. So there is no shame in me telling you the recipes of crafted items. I know I have never figured out the recipes and you probably won't need to since there are thousands of hunters doing that for you as new areas are released. This is just a heads up in the future for this guide, as I will be telling you all the recipes you'll need and remember, there is no shame in that.
Ok, now since that is out of the way. The first cheese you can craft is White Cheddar. The recipe is this:
1 Curds and Whey + 1 Salt = 1 White Cheddar
To get these two items, go to the General Store in the Harbour and purchase one of each. 12 gold for the Curds and Whey and 6 gold for the Salt. To craft them together, hover your computer mouse over the inventory tab and click the menu item labelled 'Crafting'. You will see a new interface where there are tabs up the top and there are instructions on how to craft. Follow them and make your first piece of White Cheddar cheese. The overall price of one piece of White Cheddar is 18 gold. This is a very viable alternative cheese to use instead of Marble or Cheddar.
Now, what does White Cheddar do? Well first, it has the same attraction rate as normal Cheddar cheese but it won't attract White, Brown or Grey mice. This means you will only attract the more valuable breeds that give you more points. So at 18 gold per piece, attracting the more valuable breeds, White Cheddar is very useful now. However, in the future you will need to use cheese with much higher attraction rate such as Swiss or Brie.

Once again, our goal here is to collect enough points and gold to purchase a new weapon. However, we will also be purchasing a new base, called the Explosive Base. Once you have collected 22,500 points and 29,775 gold (of course have extra for cheese and travel costs), travel to the Town of Gnawnia and purchase this base.
Explosive Base
Power: 300
Power Bonus: 5%

Cheese Effect: Stale

This is quite an upgrade in power and will greatly increase you power for a while. There will be a certain point where other bases, such as the Stone Base, will add more power, but that is quite far away from now.
This base paired with the Mouse Trebuchet has 963 power as opposed to 689 power when paired with the Wooden Base with Target. That is nearly 300 power higher but it does sacrifice 15% attraction bonus which can lower the attraction rate of your cheese by 6% or so. If you are using White Cheddar, this base will help quite a bit since you are only attracting the stronger breeds.

The new weapon we are going to purchase is the Swiss Army Mouse Trap. This trap will be the last Physical trap you will purchase for a while, it will serve you well in the future. Unlike the previous traps we have bought, this one has no counterpart, so you don't have to choose.

Once you have collected the 70,300 gold (and extra) and 45,500 points you can purchase this trap. With the Explosive Base this has a hefty power of 1,605 which is quite a power boost.
The last thing you have to do in this location is to catch a Granite Mouse (see the Harbour page). This mouse will drop the Whisker Woods Clearing Map Piece. Once you have ranked up Journeyman, with this map piece, you have two new locations to travel to. The Mountain and the Calm Clearing. The latter was opened up by catching this Granite mouse and it is the first location you can travel to that is not in Gnawnia. You will notice that a new area has been opened up called the Whisker Woods that has locations of its own. So don't freak out if you can't see the Calm Clearing in the travel page right away.
Once you have ranked up and collected this map piece, you have two choices. Travel to the Mountain or to the Calm Clearing. Travelling to the Calm Clearing isn't necessary at the moment but it is interesting to see all the new mice found there. Rather than changing a few mice or adding a few, you will encounter a completely new set of mice. You can view the different breeds you have caught by clicking the Mouse tab. The mice you have been catching for the past 4 ranks are mostly Indigenous mice, the ones in the Calm Clearing are Forest Guild mice.
